Affiliate Disclosure
Last updated: August 28, 2026
Real Dog Lab is funded by affiliate commissions. When you buy something through a link on this site, the retailer or brand may pay us a percentage or a flat fee. It never costs you anything extra, and it never determines what we recommend or what order things appear in.
Which links are affiliate links
Any link that takes you to a page where you can buy something should be assumed to be an affiliate link. Links to veterinary organisations, published research, position statements and news coverage are not — we get nothing from those, and we link to them so you can check our work.
Every article that contains an affiliate link carries a disclosure near the top of the page, above the first link, before you click anything.
Programs we participate in
We participate in affiliate programs run by retailers, brands and affiliate networks in the United States. As these change, this page is updated.
Programs will be listed here as they are approved.
The rules we hold ourselves to
- Commission never sets the ranking. On our comparison pages, free environmental changes outrank several paid products, and two of the entries are a professional consultation and a veterinary appointment. Neither pays us anything.
- No paid placements. No brand can buy a position on a list, and no brand pays us for coverage.
- No pre-approval. No brand sees an article before it is published, and no brand can request changes to one afterwards.
- Nothing is called "tested" unless it was. If we used something with our own dog, it carries a "Tested at home" label and says how long for. If we did not, the article says it is desk research.
- We publish what we could not find. A missing clinical study, an undisclosed ingredient dose, a refund policy that is not written down anywhere — those gaps are stated, not skipped.
- We exclude products that work through pain. Shock collars, prong collars and choke chains are not recommended here regardless of how well they sell, in line with the AVSAB position statement on humane dog training.
How to check whether we mean it
The simplest test: count how often this site tells you to spend nothing.
The highest-value recommendation in our main comparison is a free change to your home. The last two entries are a phone call and a vet visit. If commission were driving the rankings, that page would look very different.
If we get it wrong
If something on this site is inaccurate, out of date, or reads like it was written for a commission rather than for you, tell us. Contact us here — we would genuinely rather fix it.
The legal bit
This disclosure is provided in line with the United States Federal Trade Commission's guidance on endorsements and testimonials (16 CFR Part 255), which requires that material connections between a publisher and a seller be disclosed clearly and conspicuously.
